The album is dedicated to Masta Ace's mom, Yvonne. It's an ode to his mother that captures the vibe of the 70s and 80s, thanks to DOOM's beats and Ace's lyrical dexterity. While the beats may be familiar to DOOM aficionados and fans, Masta Ace handles his own and creates a cohesive and unified theme. Stories of going out and getting in trouble, waking up at the hospital are strung together with ease. In a way it feels as if Masta Ace has moved into DOOM's world. The off kilter and slightly intoxicated feeling of the beats lends a hazy vibe to the tales of growing up with a single mother. In the end this trip through the soul infused era that saw the birth of hip hop proves to have well been worth the wait.

black double vinyl pressing

first time on vinyl in 10+ years

original release year: 2012

music label: Fat Beats 2023

reviewed by Bourne II Röle 08/2102

ALSO AVAILABLE

Masta Ace: A Long Hot Summer Vinyl 2LP

Masta Ace: Disposable Arts Vinyl 2LP
