Five chapters explore modernized folk and devotional music through surf, garage, psych and disco, with rarity scores, collector’s checkboxes and full-color original artwork throughout. While Western bands have long drawn inspiration from Eastern music, South and Southeast Asian artists were also blending imported sounds with local traditions. Psychedelic repetitions and drones have deep roots in the region’s music, yet many of these recordings remain overlooked. “We wanted to include records that people won’t be able to read about elsewhere. There are some records in this book that are being properly documented for the first time.” — Chris Menist Featuring artists from across the region, this collection includes 12 essential compilations, 14 guest selector lists from DJs, musicians, label heads, scholars and journalists, and an extended interview with Chris Menist and Maft Sai. A guide to 50+ regional terms, rarity scores, collector’s checkboxes and a full index of artists and guest performers make this an essential resource for exploring the sounds of South and Southeast Asia." - Dust & Grooves

soft cover w/ die-cut cover window

192 pages

first edition of 2500

dimensions: 5.8" × 8.3"

weight: 0.9 lb

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0105/4542/files/ADKq_NYThdrl38NgA5Ej0Ig9Ilx9kz4_EOgK-krYGDPDpGisC-JmUJJlaU7XYcxyFJa5x59RblBiVGXEx1RAaZ0Rd_JAQdQF1HPN9PNEDjw2Au2TzDCfc0WkbQVOTfF7N2ISMweEkiofDg9hqBIetwB8vQa0-27kCcwkvJaAJhANLyqY9YXMyg.jpg?v=1792772291
https://www.turntablelab.sbs/products/chris-menist-maft-sai-folk-rock-psychedelia-in-asia-vinyl-digest-4-book
