Sure they can write a hook but they also can write the hell out of an album. You know how being in the club is an escape from the current depression the world is experiencing, and the grandiose seems much more grand than ever? The simple life is what 'Lonesome Dreams' is all about. Some people capture their 'life' by a GoPro frame, others capture actual life in song form that paints a picture no camera can catch. Jaar explains: \"I started making most of the music that is found on \u003ci\u003ePomegranates\u003c\/i\u003e before I had seen the movie or was aware of its existence.\" He had created \"a weird collage of ambient music\" over about a two-year period. One of his friends, upon hearing the songs, recommended \u003ci\u003eThe Color of Pomegranates\u003c\/i\u003e to Jaar, and the producer was \"dumbfounded\" after watching the film: \"I felt the aesthetic made complete sense with the strange themes I had been obsessed with over the past couple of years.\" Jaar couldn't get the clearance to screen the \u003ci\u003ePomegranates\u003c\/i\u003e-version of the movie, but this reimagined score surely can stand on its own. One of the few albums I can just keep flipping over and over and over to this day. For \u003ci\u003eLadies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space\u003c\/i\u003e the band took influences from all over the map and created something truly unique. African American gospel and blues started to show through the walls of sound. The production techniques of \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.sbs\/search?q=Phil+Spector\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePhil Spector\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e and \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.sbs\/search?q=Brian+Wilson\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBrian Wilson\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e were heavily present as well. There can be so much going on at one time but somehow it all works perfectly together. While this may have come as a shock to the group’s cult-following, listening to Wood’s lyrics throughout \u003cem\u003eAnts From Up There\u003c\/em\u003e, it becomes clear that the record was intended to be his breakup album with the group. Wood references a dying relationship with “Concorde,” a style of supersonic jet that was discontinued in the early aughts. On the third track, Wood sings “but for less than a moment we'd share the same sky, and then Isaac will suffer, Concorde will fly” a line that perfectly captures the undertone of the album (for the band to continue and grow, Wood needed to leave). After all, the band’s sound has changed drastically since their \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.sbs\/search?type=article%2Cpage%2Cproduct\u0026amp;q=For%20the%20First%20Time\u0026amp;_=pf\u0026amp;pf_v_artist_manufacturer=Black%20Country%2C%20New%20Road\" target=\"_blank\"\u003edebut\u003c\/a\u003e, leaving behind many post-punk tropes to shift towards chamber-pop a la \u003cstrong\u003eArcade Fire\u003c\/strong\u003e’s \u003cem\u003eFuneral\u003c\/em\u003e. I’ve personally seen shows at the Roseland Ballroom, but still this is THE Roseland concert in my mind - they may as well have condemned and demolished it the day after the Portishead show. Check out the spine-tingling renditions of “Glory Box,” “Over,” “Roads,” “All Mine,” but you should really just play it from the top and pretend you were there.
